A town steeped in history, there are a wealth of stories to discover in Market Rasen. One of the best ways to do this is to follow the town’s award-winning heritage tour.
This interactive walking tour allows you to explore the area and delve into some of the fascinating stories behind the buildings and locations you see today.
There is some beautiful architecture here, including the 12th century Church of St Thomas, and The Old Police Station and Magistrates’ Court; a grade II listed building which dates back to 1849.
Explore the great outdoors
There are a number of walking trails which either pass through or start in Market Rasen. The neighbouring villages of Walesby, Tealby and Legsby are all within easy reach, and there is also a circular walking trail which is perfect for families.
A 7-mile round route, the ‘Walk in the Woods’ trail will take you from Market Rasen to Willingham Woods, and out into the surrounding countryside.
Managed by the Woodland Trust, Willingham Woods is a beautiful spot for a walk. There are additional walking trails here which will take you through the woodland, as well as a little café kiosk if you need to stop for refreshments.
There are many fishing lakes in the area, including Otby Lake and Wold View Country Park, which offer stunning views and a chance to relax and unwind. Market Rasen Golf Club also offers a challenging, yet picturesque course with River Rase winding through the course which features in a number of holes.
If you prefer to swing through the trees, rather than walk, head to Wild Pines Park. Home to one of the largest rope courses in the UK, this adventure park offers the ultimate treetop experience. With high rope challenges, obstacle courses and no less than 22 zip lines, Wild Pines is an adventure the whole family can enjoy. Other activities include mini-golf, archery, and a free craft room and play area for little ones.
For something a little different, Market Rasen is best known for its racecourse, the only one in Lincolnshire, which hosts regular racing events and live entertainment throughout the year. Nearby attractions like Rand Farm Park, Hall Farm Park and Lincoln Zoo provide fun-filled days out for all the family.
